CHAPTER 10
Warmth entered Cullen all the way down to his bones at Ulf’s declaration. “Are you sure?” he asked, certain he had to have heard Ulf incorrectly. “I’ve managed to get you shot, left you for dead, and now…” Cullen winced as blood dripped onto the floor.
“You stabbed him in the ass,” Arne added, not so helpfully. “I mean, who wouldn’t want to keep someone like that around? Then again,” Arne said with a laugh. “You did stab Fen, not once, but three damn times. That alone makes you my new favorite person, so I can understand Ulf’s attraction.”
Cullen ignored the sarcastic man and waited for Ulf, who had yet to answer him, again. It wasn’t until his large hand cupped Cullen’s jaw and those firm lips were on his again that Cullen felt himself breathe once more.
He wanted to protest when Ulf broke the kiss, but then he saw the pain radiating in his eyes as well as the beads of sweat that dotted his forehead. “Come on,” he said. “Let’s get you cleaned up.”
“Why don’t we take care of those in the medical suite,” Brandr suggested. The man had become a doctor nearly a hundred years ago. It hadn’t been the most advanced time to learn about medicine, but he’d kept up on treatments and procedures since.
The ridiculously large house, that could have doubled as a hotel, had two wings that angled back from the front of the house, which had a large great room with two-story windows along the expansive back. The view of the mountains in the distance was breathtaking, even if Cullen only had gotten a glance as he crossed the front hall, after they’d come up from the basement stairs near the kitchen along the east side of the house.
The west side had a matching staircase going to the second floor, as had the east, which held the bedroom he’d slept in with Ulf. “How many rooms does this place have?” Cullen asked after finally entering the fourth door down the long corridor, that probably had at least another eight doors beyond it.
“Bedrooms?” Brandr answered when Ulf only grunted as they helped him lie down, since sitting would only hurt, as one of the knife wounds was in his right ass cheek. “Thirty. Eighteen on the west side and twelve on the east.”
Since he knew the kitchen was on the east side of the house, Cullen figured it made sense not as many rooms were able to fit. “Are they all as big as Ulf’s?”
“What the fuck?” Ulf yelled when Brandr cut his pants right off him. “These were my favorite jeans.”
Brandr lifted an eyebrow. “I hate to tell you this, but the knife that went into your ass kind of ruined them.”
Ulf glared over at Cullen. Shit. He tried to fight it but Cullen could feel his cheeks heat. “I said I was sorry.” Not that an apology was really sufficient for stabbing his lover in the ass. “But you were the one
